British Columbia Family Adventures
Wildlife viewing is always a great family activity, especially with all of the amazing creatures in land, sea and sky waiting for you in British Columbia. Go whale watching to see many different species, including orcas, gray whales, minkes, and humpbacks. With thousands of whales migrating along the coast of British Columbia every year, you’re sure to spot some. You’ll also see porpoises, sea lions, and seals in the waters – all of that just a few minutes off the coast.
Spirit Bears
Back on land, the wildlife runs just as thick, including deer, elk, moose, caribou, bighorn sheep, marmots, wolves, badgers, mountain lions, and tons of rare and endangered bird life like the white pelican. Vancouver is home to rare cinnamon bears, and you can try to spot a cream-colored Kermode bear, too. Often called spirit bears because of their ghostly color, the Kermodes hold a special place among the First Nations people’s mythology. If you ask around, you can probably get someone to tell a story about the spirit bear.
If the family is looking for a more rollicking good time, take them to one of British Columbia’s many festivals and cultural events. With film and music festivals, cherry blossom celebrations, and the many First Nations cultural events, there’s always something new to learn and see in BC.
