British Columbia Land Adventures
British Columbia doesn’t intend to let you sit around on your duff all vacation long – the whole region is just calling out for you to come and explore. Go cycling through the mountains down steep vertical trails, across country on one of the long routes laid out by true competitors or on one of the slow meanders carved out by old railroad tracks.
Ever dream of being a cowboy on the lonesome range? You have your chance in BC. There are dozens of guest and dude ranches, where you can learn to round up cattle in Thompson Okanagon’s sagebrush or ride up to the alpine mountains of the Kootenay Rockies. Cariboo Chilcotin’s where you’ll want to be heading if you’re looking for the real cowboy experience; this is where ranchers still ply their trade and are often willing to have an extra hand about the place. If backcountry riding’s more your style, then as the old saw says, head north, young man (or woman). Northern BC has gorgeous riding trails well off the beaten track.
Longboarding
If you’re looking for an unusual regional challenge, try longboarding on for size. Something like skateboarding on a snowboard, longboarding’s a whole new way to test your skills in maneuvering, balance, and daring.
Camping in British Columbia is a unique experience, seeing as it’s home to one of the only temperate rain forests in the world. Check out the giant Sequoia, trees so big you can't circle their trunks without a few buddies to help make a chain. The region’s also home to seven of Canada’s national parks, giving you miles of hiking terrain and hundreds of beautiful native wildlife species to encounter on your journeys.
