Manitoba Water Adventures

Manitoba has a history of heroic voyageurs travelling by canoe upriver to explore a brave new world. Follow their paths by kayak or canoe, paddling through the amazing lakes and rivers of the region including the famous Hudson Bay and Lake Winnipeg, one of the largest freshwater lakes in the world. If you prefer salt, head to the coast for a stint at sea kayaking in the frigid waters and catch a glimpse of polar bears and beluga whales.

The lakes of Manitoba are prime fishing territory, with crystalline waters and both salt and freshwater specimens of fish. Home to the oldest master angler program in North America, Manitoba gives the serious fisher a run for his money, but the province sends you home with a trophy from any of 30 qualifying species in the region.

Cast a line for lake trout, walleye, Northern pike, rainbow trout, perch, and bass, along with many other varieties. They say the shorter the time from the water to the pan, the better your catch tastes. Put that adage to the test and enjoy a fresh-caught shore lunch from the Red River.
