Northwest Territories Family Adventures

There are tons of festivals and events for the whole family in the Northwest Territories, especially if your clan is interested in learning about the native peoples who make up more than half of the region’s population.

Be sure to turn out for the Snowking Winter Festival, where events are held in a giant palace made of ice and snow in Yellowknife Bay. Check out the Frozen Dog Film Festival held there, and dress up in your fancy clothes for the Snowking’s Royal Ball.

Music Festivals
There are tons of great music festivals, too, from the End of the Road to the Folk on the Rocks to the Open Sky. Check out the Caribou Carnival for sport demonstrations, tons of kid’s activities, and a stunning ice-sculpture contest, as well as a chance to watch the Great Slave Extreme Snowmobile Racing and the Ugly Truck and Dog Contest. For a real treat, take the family out to see kite skiing. Colorful kites combine with skiing, sailing, and the wide-open tundra. It’s an experience they’ll never forget.
