Nova Scotia is a place for storytelling. The land is older than you can imagine, and the first peoples walked here more than 11,000 years ago. Their direct descendants, the First Nations people of Mi’kmaq, still live in Nova Scotia, and you can hear their legends wherever you go. Learn about a culture shaped from the very land you’re walking upon, and ask to hear a story of Glooscap, the man imbued with godly powers by the Great Spirit, who forms the centerpiece of so many Mi’kmaq myths.
Nova Scotia is called Canada’s Ocean Playground, and we’re sending you out to get roses in your cheeks. Join in a sandcastle competition on one of the region’s beautiful beaches, swim in the surf and roll in the sun. You’ll laugh like you haven’t since you were as young as your own children, and they’ll be having the time of their lives.
When you’re in a celebratory sort of mood, travel to one of the province’s festivals, many of which center around the beautiful harvests pulled in each year. Roll a pumpkin at the Windsor-Hants Regatta, pick fresh apples and stomp grapes. You’ll be dripping with juice and stuffed with delicious food, ready to sleep under a starry Nova Scotia sky.
