Nunavut Water Adventures

For an adventure worth the name, take a cruise north of the North Pole. You can travel all the way to Tanquary Ford on Ellesmere Island if you’re brave enough, or you can keep it simple around Pond Inlet and Cambridge Bay. You’ll be able to say you saw the top of the world.

Nunavut offers up spectacular rivers routes to the canoe and rafting lovers in your party. Take your river craft deep into the hinterland to see regions rarely touched by man and often occupied with populations of musk ox, caribou, and grizzly bears. Take a trek up the Thelon Heritage River, where you can travel 130 Miles without ever seeing a port.

Kayaking
If you want to experience the sea like a native of Nunavut, slip your kayak out on the chill waters. You can take it up routes that the first Inuit explorers traveled and touch massive icebergs with your hand. Out on the water, it’s truly unspoiled beauty as far as the eye can see, for as long as your stamina keeps you going. No water adventure in Nunavut is complete without taking a chance to see the native wildlife – not that you’ll be able to miss it. Nunavut is rich with marine life, and you’ll be able to go whale watching, walrus hunting, and polar bear sighting to your heart’s content. You might even catch sight of the narwhal: an almost impossible-to-believe whale with a unicorn’s spiraling horn.
